Session Meeting held.
HEALTH MINISTRY
Addiction is a
catch-all term for a complex behavioral disorder. The most obvious symptom is
that addicts reach a point where they cannot control their own actions.Even
when they can see the harm, they continue the compulsive behavior. The
inability to stop marks addiction. There is a controversy as to whether
addiction is a disease or a will-power failure.As a disease it has
psychological, genetic, and psychosocial aspects and is not a character flaw
or a failure of morality. When most of us think of addiction, we think of
drugs and alcohol. But there are other addictions such as gambling, eating
disorders, prescriptions drugs, shopping, sex, and smoking are a few.Anyone
can become an addict if they are exposed to the proper stimulus in the right
context.Denial is very strong with the addict.Family and friends may have to
help the person by getting them help.Support groups help individuals,
families and friends who want to help during these challenging
times.AsChristians,we need to support and encourage each other and showing
them we care about them. The support groups share personal experiences, give
information, provide support during times of treatment, recovery, or
illness.Alcoholics Anonymous offers a spiritual or religious component in
most of its meetings. There are treatment facilities for specific
addictions. To find a support group or facility contact your physician,
pastor, go to SupportGroups.com for on-line groups or call toll-free
1-877-398-5115 any time to discuss treatment options.Hope Presbyterian
church has an Alcoholics Anonymous group that meets every Saturday.
Psalm 100:5“For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his
faithfulness continues through all generations.”
