CHILDREN & FAMILIES by Cathy Plucker Family Fun and Worship This year we are going to begin something new for families with children and youth. One will take place on Wednesdays during the Christian Education hour and the other will happen on Sunday. Hope Presbyterian Church wants to make sure that young families remain involved and that they get to know each other through some of these activities. Below is a description of each activity. Sunday Worship Family Fun When a family, with children infant-12th grade, comes to worship on Sunday they will write their names on a sign in sheet. At least one parent needs to be with the family. The sign up sheet is then cut into strips and put in a box. Then at the end of May there will be a drawing for different gifts. A paid trip to Valleyfair will be one of the gifts given away. We will be planning a church wide Valleyfair trip for others who would like to go in June, but the lucky family will get their tickets free. We will have additional gifts to give away also. Throughout the year we will have surprise giveaways on certain Sundays. Wednesday Fellowship and Worship This year during the Wednesday night programming for the children and youth, the parents will have an opportunity to be involved with various activities. Some of these may include video Bible studies, service projects, worship events, and some outside fellowship that may involve a bike or some good running shoes. If there are any events that you would like to see happen on these Wednesday nights, please talk to Cathy. We are encouraging parents to stay at church while their child is in their class and join the activity planned.
MISSIONS by Cathy Service for a Day If you would like to serve in some way, but going on a mission trip may not be possible for you right now, then come to church on September 12th for our first Service for a Day. Immediately following church we will have a potluck and then break into three service groups. Each group will have a specific service project that they will be working on which will either be at church or in our community. Please bring along some work clothes to church for these projects. The service projects will be two hours in duration or less. There will be three service projects to choose from in September; working out at the Hope Garden, helping with the Fall cleanup at church and going to Glen Oaks to visit with Happy the Clown. There is something for EVERYONE, young and old. And remember to bring along a dish to share. If you are aware of projects that can be completed in two hours in our community or at our church, please contact Cathy. Our next Service for a Day will be in December. Let’s rally together in service for the Lord. Adult Mission Trip Meeting On September 27th at 6:30 pm we will be having a mission meeting. This is for anyone who is interested in going on an adult mission trip, near or far. The slate is completely open so any ideas that you have would be greatly appreciated. This will be a planning committee so come with lots of suggestions and comments.
Sioux Falls Urban
Plunge Your church has the opportunity to join 63 other churches in our presbytery on a weekend mission trip to Sioux Falls on October 22nd-24th. To register please fill out the bottom of this flyer and send it to the address listed along with the fee. The cost of the trip is $95.00 per person which includes lodging, meals and a guide. There is a limit of 50 people for this trip, so please register as soon as possible. This will be a life-changing mission trip. Hope Presbyterian Church from Spicer, MN has experienced three Urban Plunges: Omaha, NE (twice) and Sioux Falls, SD. They have had a great experience each time and are very excited that others from the Presbytery will have a similar opportunity in October. If you would like more information about this trip, please contact Cathy at 320-796-2650. This trip is for anyone in you church ages 9th grade to 99 years old, who would like to experience a mission trip. Your church might send one person or ten. Just remember, we can only take the first 50 people who register. - -
